Contact heater vs Coolant heater

In order to evaluate which engine heater concept that is most efficient we have conducted the following tests on Euro 6 diesel engines.

Conclusions:

A contact heater is most efficient in order to preheat the engine block and oil.
A contact heater increases oil temperature approx. 30-35°C more than a coolant element heater.
A contact heater increases engine block temperature approx. 20-25°C more than a coolant heater.
A coolant heater will increase cylinder head temperature approx. 30°C more than a contact heater.
Using a coolant heater results in 3-5°C higher cabin temperature for the first 16 minutes of driving.
Both heaters reduce emissions and fuel consumption at nearly the same level (less than 2% variation).
A contact heater (300W) uses 42% less energy to preheat the engine compared to a coolant heater (550W).
With WarmUp, you start the drive with 22°C in the cabin, compared to reaching 20°C after 18 mins in a cold start.
Contact heaters ensure the evaporation of diesel in the system to work in extreme cold conditions.
